Farm News

“After the wettest harvest ever, the farm has at last finished harvest. The final crop to bring in to the barn was field beans, which although wet were of fairly good quality. Normally these go for animal feed, but may well be good enough for export to the Middle East (probably Egypt) for human consumption.

Most of the crops were extremely wet, so we had to work through the night to harvest the wheat (culminating in a fire in the grain store, bravely extinguished by farm staff before the fire brigade arrived)! We are now busy ‘working down’ the ground for next years crops. We have already planted next years oilseed rape, but this has all rotted in the ground, due to the wet weather, or been eaten by slugs, so will be replaced by oats or beans.

The sheep and cattle are well. At least the wet weather has meant lush grass growth, so with a fair autumn, the cattle should be able to stay out in the fields for quite a while. We have scanned the cows, and nearly all which have run with the bull are in calf.”

The Betsey Wynne, built by the Swanbourne Estate in a traditional style, is a free house.  It has a large bar, comfortable leather sofas, open log fires (in winter) and an impressive oak beamed dining room.  The Snug, with its large inglenook fireplace and window seat, is a private room in which to eat or drink with family and friends or for meetings with colleagues.  In the summer customers can enjoy the wonderful garden with an old red tractor for children to play on and terrace area overlooking the adjacent farmland.

Customers at The Betsey Wynne can expect to enjoy not only a warm and friendly welcome but a choice of real ales, fine wines, good home-cooked food and delicious fresh coffee.   The pub offers customers the extraordinary (and possibly unique) experience of tasting beautifully cooked food direct from the Swanbourne Estate and other surrounding farms.  They can sample some of the best quality meat, vegetables and fruit from the local area.  All the dishes served at The Betsey Wynne are prepared by our chefs using traditional cooking methods and fresh, local ingredients wherever possible.

Everyone is always very welcome at The Betsey Wynne including children and of course well behaved dogs!  The Betsey Wynne is a fabulous new country pub with a great ambience, lots of friendly local staff and wonderful home-cooked food.

It is a great place to come and enjoy a beer or two or possibly a meal with family or friends.
